(112.international) – Ukrainian and Georgian officials may be holding secret negotiations on extraditing former President of Georgia and ex-Governor of Odesa region Mikheil Saakashvili, according to Georgian TV channel Rustavi-2.
According to their information, Vakhtang Gomelauri, Head of the Security Service of Georgia, is participating in the negotiations.
“The Security Service confirmed the information only after Courier (channel’s programme) contacted the agency. Later on, a statement was published on the website of the service, saying that Vakhtang Gomelauri would attend the 100th anniversary of the Security Service in Belarus,” the TV channel wrote.
As we reported earlier, on December 5, Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko announced that the protests organized by Saakashvili had been financed by allies of ex-President Yanukovych. As proof, he made public the audio file, in which Saakashvili’s aide is talking to a trustee of oligarch Serhiy Kurchenko. Saakashvili called these accusations ‘fake’.
Pechersk Court of Kyiv refused the Prosecutor General’s Office to choose the home arrest as the restriction measure for Mikheil Saakashvili. Now the prosecution expects Saakashvili to come in for questioning on Dec. 18.
