Serbian movie director to begin production of Dostoyevsky’s novels

The works of Fyodor Dostoyevsky “Idiot” and “Crime and Punishment” were chosen for film adaptations

Famous Serbian director Emir Kusturica in 2019 will shoot two films based on Russian classics. For the film adaptation, the works of Fyodor Dostoyevsky “Idiot” and “Crime and Punishment” were chosen.

Kusturica said that the shooting will begin next year. To work on the script of both movies, the director plans to attract specialists from China. For this decision, Kusturica explained that he needed someone with a deeper perspective of Russian literary classics.

“Someone from China with a deeper look will help me create a script, I’ll do it by the end of next year,” the director shared his plans.”

At the same time, Kusturica is finishing his new book, which will be the seventh in the literary career of the film director. Also, Kusturica is known for his musical talent and he often performs with concerts.

“I’ll start shooting next year. I’m finishing the book I’m going to publish, ” – RT quoting the words of the Serbian director.”

Earlier it was reported that by September the director intended to write a novel in which he would transfer the heroes of “Idiot” and “Crime and Punishment” Fyodor Dostoyevsky to modern China, and then screen his work.

Kusturica has competed at the Cannes Film Festival five times and won the Palme d’Or twice, for his works When Father Was Away and Underground, together with Best Director for The Time of the Gypsies. He has also won the Silver Bear for Arizona Dream at the Berlin Film Festival and the Silver Lion at the Venice Film Festival for Black Cat, White Cat. He has also organized the annual Kustendorf Film Festival. Kusturica has been appointed a UNICEF National Ambassador for Serbia and Commander of the French Order of Arts and Letters, as well as being appointed to the first St. Petersburg International Film Festival.
