(RT) – Long-range Tu-22M3 strategic bombers, deployed from Russian bases, have been working non-stop in Syria last week, having struck a number of ISIS terrorist gatherings, hardware depots and strongholds in the northeastern part of the country.

On Sunday, Su-30SM and Su-35S fighter jets based at the Khmeimim airbase in Latakia Province joined six Russian-based Tu-22M3 bombers in Syria’s airspace to conduct air raids on terrorists congested on the ground. The Russian Defense Ministry later released footage of the bombers conducting airstrikes against Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS) terrorists in the Euphrates River valley in Syria’s province of Deir ez-Zor on Sunday.

The strikes, the success of which was confirmed by intelligence, were recorded during the mission in which the bomber unloaded their deadly payload of at least six bombs each on terrorist targets. The Sunday video also shows Russian fighter jet flying in tandem with a much bigger Tu-22M3, as Russian fighters secured the sky to accomplish the successful bombing sortie which eliminated terrorists’ strongholds and hardware concentrations in the Euphrates Valley.

This was the fourth time in a row that Tu-22M3 bombers were scrambled from Russian territory to fight in Syria. Earlier on Saturday, six Russian bombers, accompanied by fighter jets, attacked terrorist strongholds and hardware concentrations near al-Ishara, in northeastern Syria. Again, the graceful maneuvers in the air by the Russian pilots ended up in extremists’ manpower losses on the ground.

The Russian Air Force also conducted raids on Friday, where six Tu-22M3 bombers, accompanied by Su30SM fighter jets, engaged in “pinpoint bombing” on the left shore of the Euphrates River near Abbas, in Deir ez-Zor province of Syria.

On Friday, Russia’s Defense Minister, Sergey Shouigu met with UN Special Envoy Staffan de Mistura to discuss political settlement in Syria, especially developing extra measures to pave the way for dialogue between the opposition and the government in Damascus.

The meeting with de Mistura was held the same week as the Russian President Vladimir Putin hosted Syrian leader Bashar Assad in Sochi and convened a summit on the future of Syria with the leaders of Iran and Turkey, where all parties endorsed an initiative to kickstart an all-Syrian national dialogue. Damascus welcomed the initiative on Sunday.

“The consecutive victories achieved by the Syrian Arab Army and its allies which paved the way for the political track and intra-Syrian dialogue, the Syrian Arab Republic government welcomes the National Dialogue Congress which will be held in Sochi, Russia, with the participation of many segments of Syrian society, affirming that the government has agreed to attend the Congress,” Syrian Foreign Ministry source told SANA.
