Russian Energy Week opens in Moscow, St. Petersburg

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Moscow and St. Petersburg will host the Energy Efficiency and Energy Development International Forum – Russian Energy Week (REW) on October 3–7, which will also become a platform of a ministerial meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) members.

The week-long event will discuss prospects of developing oil, gas, coal, and petrochemical industries. Participants of the Russian Energy Week 2017 include ministerial delegations from Japan, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Iran and Bangladesh, among others, who will hold talks on a wide range of issues related to the future of the global energy market.

According to Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak, some 30 ministers have confirmed their participation in the event, including Iranian Petroleum Minister Bijan Zanganeh, Venezuelan Oil Minister Eulogio Del Pino and Qatari Minister of Energy and Industry Mohammed Bin Saleh Al-Sada.

Russian President Vladimir Putin will also take part in the Russian Energy Week, delivering his address at the plenary session on October 4, which will be dedicated to the topic of energy for global growth.

On the sidelines of the REW, ministers will meet to hold a meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum, which will be chaired by Novak, and discuss global trends in the development of the gas market.

The REW Forum program will also extend to St. Petersburg, where the St. Petersburg International Gas Forum will be held on October 3–6, with the participation of Gazprom, Uniper, and Nord Stream AG, among other energy companies.

The forum, organized by the Roscongress Foundation, is expected to attract over 8,000 representatives of government authorities and national and foreign companies that work in the energy industry, as well as some 1,000 media representatives.
