MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Russian jets have destroyed over 790 assets belonging to Islamist militants during a week of military operations in Syria, a Russian newspaper affiliated with the Defense Ministry said.
The warplanes flew a total of 330 missions to find and engage targets of the Islamic State terror group (IS, banned in Russia), the Krasnaya Zvezda (Red Star) newspaper reported.
During the same period, Russian spy drones flew more than 170 reconnaissance missions, detecting over 520 IS targets.
Russia has been providing air support to Syrian ground troops in the country’s east. The Russian Defense Ministry said in early September Syrian troops had dealt a decisive blow to terrorists in the Deir Ez-Zor area, winning the biggest victory in three years.
