MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Russia and France express their concern that terrorists can flee Syria and head for other countries, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Friday.
“We share the concern of our French partners that terrorists may try to leave Syria for other countries, including Europe, Central Asia, the Russian Federation, generating new threats there,”
Lavrov said after the talks with his French counterpart Jean-Yves Le Drian.
Over recent weeks, the Islamic State (IS) terror group, outlawed in Russia, suffered several significant defeats in Syria. Earlier this week, Syrian government troops supported by Russia managed to lift the three-year siege of the city of Deir ez-Zor.
At the same time, the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) are liberating the city of Raqqa, which was known as the self-proclaimed IS capital in Syria.
