Forbes: RT editor-in-chief Margarita Simonyan more powerful than Hillary Clinton

(Sputnik) – Sputnik and RT editor-in-chief Margarita Simonyan, as well as the head of the Central Bank Elvira Nabiullina have surpassed former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in the 2017 most powerful women list released by Forbes magazine.

Simonyan made the Forbes list for the first time and was ranked fifty-second.

According to Forbes, Simonyan is frequently discussed in media, tech and political circles with respect to Russian media networks and their influence in the world.

“I would have preferred to find myself on another Forbes list, but, as they say, it is all about the kind of degree you have,” Simonyan said, commenting on her inclusion in the list.

Earlier in the day, the RT editor-in-chief told Russia’s Zvezda broadcaster that she was completely satisfied with her career at the moment and not planning to go into politics.

“I am definitely not registering to run in any elections. I am making an official political statement: I never will,” Simonyan said.

Nabiullina

Nabiullina, who served as Russian President Vladimir Putin’s economic adviser between May 2012 and June 2013, was ranked forty-ninth on Forbes list.

According to Forbes, Nabiullina still “has Putin’s ear, though she may be facing an internal battle against the use of bitcoin.”

German Chancellor Angela Merkel topped the list of 100 most powerful women and also the list of most influential women in politics. British Prime Minister Theresa May ranks second, followed by Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg. Hillary Clinton was in the sixty-fifth place.
